After finishing 1-2 in Chicago, the Yotes came out strong in their sweep over York College in their opener of the LaQuinta-KWU Invitational Tournament. After trailing by seven points, the Yotes fought back and took the first set against the Panthers. After Kelsey Plummer received a kill, giving the Coyotes possession of the ball, they went on to score 11 consecutive points to win the first set 25-21. The final point for the Yotes came from an error on an attack by the Panthers,
The second set started off with a 10-7 lead for the Coyotes started by a kill from Valerie Most. Most had a few great kills in set two to take the Coyotes on to victory. However, the battle was hard fought and went back and forth throughout the entire set. In the end, the Yotes took the second set with a 25-17 win.
Hannah Reynolds and Valerie Most went on to score a few aces and kills in the third set that was also won by the Yotes. Kansas Wesleyan began the third set with a 10-8 lead and stayed ahead throughout the entire set. Match point was set up by a kill from Jessica Webb and the final point came from an error on the York College Panthers.
The Kansas Wesleyan Coyotes fought hard and long for this win. The Yotes went on to win two more games throughout the LaQuinta-KWU Invitational. Their overall record so far is 4-5 and they will travel to Hastings, Nebraska this weekend (September 9-10) to play Missouri Valley College, Hastings College, and the University of Montana-West.
