Quidditch Quickly coming to KWU
With the school’s decision to add a Harry Potter major, a new sports team will be coming to KWU. Quidditch is the popular sporting event which arose from the popular book series. Although us muggles cannot fly on broomsticks there is a non-magic version we can participate in.
Quidditch teams are not uncommon at universities in the United Sates. Universities such as Harvard, John Hopkins, and Stanford, all have quidditch teams. The game can be hard to understand as there are intricacies about the game. There are seven players to a team including a keeper, two beaters, three chasers, and one seeker. These players have different tasks and must adhere to the rules.
Luckily, J.K. Rowling has brought with her an excellent quidditch professor who will help coach the Coyotes to their first-ever championship. Rowling hopes the new team to make it to the US Quidditch Cup in the Spring of 2018.
Reactions to this have been positive amongst students while faculty is concerned. Faculty fears students will be lured far too deep in a world of fantasy. These concerns are being taken seriously by the board and precautions will be implemented on the participating athletes. However, they have failed to mention what these precautions are.
Overall the introduction of quidditch to KWU has been interesting. We will have to wait and see what triumphs the quidditch team will bring within their first year.
