Rihanna to perform at 2017 Graduation

Over the Spring Break, award-winning singer Rihanna announced she will be performing at the 2017 KWU Graduation. Rihanna announced the news by posting a picture of Casey the Coyote on her Instagram page with the caption, “so excited to announce I will be performing two songs at Kansas Wesleyan University for their 2017 Graduation #suchanhonor.”
Rihanna’s Team spoke to the Advance about the news stating they believe that’s it’s a great opportunity for the KWU coyotes and Rihanna herself. “It’s about giving back,” Rihanna’s manager stated, “KWU is putting out scholars, people who are going out into the world to be productive members of society and that is something we should celebrate.”
KWU is excited to welcome Rihanna and her team onto campus to perform for our graduating coyotes this year. Students across the board are so excited to hear we will be getting a Grammy winning star to not only grace our presence but perform.
However, due to the rarity of the performance, KWU is taking steps to help the graduation still maintain elements of a traditional ceremony. The school hopes to limit the number of people coming to the 2017 graduation. So Rihanna fans do not flock the auditorium, making the ceremony more about Rihanna’s performance and not about the students. No official decision has been announced, but as of now, there are rumors stating that the school plans to limit each student to only five guests.  For those who can not attend the graduation ceremony, the Kansas Wesleyan Communications department will be filming the entire event live on the school’s YouTube page.
